Hestia

Gracious Hestia, gentle-hearted one, soul of the home,
I call to you. In times of old, dear goddess,
all first offerings were yours, so great was your might,
so great your import, so great the need for your blessing.
Noble daughter of Kronos and broad-bosomed Rhea,
honored sister of thundering Zeus, eternal maid
who sits at the center, all honor I offer you.
I thank you for the solid walls I dwell within,
I thank you for the warm and welcoming hearth,
I thank you for the bread I break with friends and kin.
Hestia, constant tender of Olympos’ bright flame,
friend of those who keep and kindle their own hearthfire,
I thank you for making my home a sanctuary
of comfort and peace, of security and strength.

Prayer to Hestia and Hermes for Home Economy

I call to Hermes, god of the marketplace,
god of the the deal, from whose hands fall shining coins.
I call to Hestia, goddess of the home,
goddess of good management, who knows the ways of thrift.
Grant me a keen eye to spot a bargain, I pray;
grant that I know false economy from true.
Grant me the craft to repair what is broken,
grant me the sufficiency to save for what may come.
Grant me the wisdom to live with care, O gods,
the discipline and skill to live within my means;
grant me the wit to know my needs and my desires,
grant me the judgment to know the difference.

Prayer to Hestia to Bless the Home

Home-loving Hestia, fair maid who sits by the fire,
first-born of fearful Kronos and deep-souled Rhea,
goddess who is the beating heart of every home,
tender of the altar flame, guardian of the gate,
I pray to you this day, I ask your favor.
All who pass this threshold pass into your realm,
O goddess; may all who dwell within these walls
be under your protection. Hestia, eldest
of the deathless gods, I ask your blessing
on my home and on my family. May we live
our lives in joy and love, may our larder be full,
may we be sheltered from storms, kept safe from all ill,
may only those who wish us well make their way
to our door. Be ever welcome in our home,
O Hestia; be ever present in our hearts.

Litany to Hestia

Bright-veiled Hestia, heart of the happy home, goddess
who binds together a family, who strengthens
a city, the household is your temple,
the hearthfire your altar and your namesake. Hestia,
I praise and honor you, I thank you for your blessings.

Hestia, wise one who oversees the family feast,
who guides the making and the breaking of bread,
to whom offerings are made at simple meal
or sumptuous banquet, Hestia of the oven-fire,
I praise and honor you, I thank you for your blessings.

Hestia, gentle-hearted daughter of Kronos
and mother Rhea, first-born and last-born child
of Titans, dear sister of thundering Zeus
who gave to you a place of honor evermore,
I praise and honor you, I thank you for your blessings.

Hestia who sits ever at the center of things,
who tends the flickering flame of sacrifice
with patience and with care, who receives the first
and the best portion of all due offerings,
I praise and honor you, I thank you for your blessings.

Hestia

Well-honored Hestia, queen of the hearthfire,
first among the deathless ones, first are the offerings
you receive, first are the blessings you provide.
Hestia, holder of the household, upholder
of community, tender of the flame in every
home, every city, every place where we gather
together to live our lives. First you are in tales
long told, eldest and youngest child of old Cronos
and clever Rhea; first you are in holy rites,
first you are in family custom, first to take
from simple meal or lavish feast. Where bread is broken,
where welcome is warm, we know your might. O goddess.

Hestia

Hestia, gracious goddess who sits at the heart
of each home, who lives in the heart of each one
who reveres you, each one who holds you dear, each one
who turns to you for strength and harmony. Hestia,
goddess most needful, goddess most serene, goddess
most esteemed, the heart of the city is yours
as well, great goddess; within your realm are those
who serve the state, who work for the good of all–
your blessings fall on the honest, goddess, your wrath
on the corrupt, on those who betray their trust
for gain. Defender of the householder, guardian
of the hearthfire, Hestia, I praise and honor you.

To Hestia

I call to Hestia, gentle one, heart of the home,
honored daughter of mighty Kronos and fair Rhea;
as first and last born of those ancient Titans
you take of all first and final offerings.
Peace-loving goddess, tender of Olympos’ flame,
in tranquil pursuits you take pleasure. Hestia,
in the arts of the home we find you, in a warm fire
and a full larder, in a generous spirit
and a soft voice. Goddess, in every house
you hold safe the most profound of intimacies,
the substance of family, the essence of society.
Each home a safe haven, each hearthside your temple,
each flame, each meal, each child tucked into bed
a prayer of gratitude to you, dear goddess.
Hestia, firm-willed one, kind-hearted one, I call to you.

Hestia

Hestia, granter of comfort, ease of mind,
warmth and security, of safety within
the solid walls of home, of belonging,
of the balanced center of our being;
Hestia, I thank you for your many gifts.
Open-hearted you are, your strength and aid
given freely to any who may ask,
to any whose need you see, whose spirit
you lift, whose hand you steady. Hestia,
gentle goddess, lover of peace and calm,
of the heart of the home, of the hearth’s
soft fires, worthy of all praise, I honor you.
