Prayer to Dike that Justice Be Done

Wise and watchful Dike, daughter of thundering Zeus
and Themis in whom order resides, goddess
never forgotten, we know you now as Justice,
sword and scales in hand. Before the court you stand
in silence, keeper of truth, champion of the right,
upholder of integrity; you reward the honest man
and punish the wrong-doer, the wicked and the false.
Blessed Dike, the court is your temple
and to you do I offer my prayers for justice.
Grant to all concerned your honorable spirit,
O goddess; may all words spoken under oath
be whole and true. May all those who hold mastery
and might be of good intent, may they be fair-minded,
may they deem reason and righteousness to be
most grave and weighty matters. Dike who knows
the guiltless from the errant, I pray to you.

To Dike

I call to true-hearted Dike, righteous goddess
who knows the good we do, who knows as well the ill.
Daughter of thundering Zeus whose integrity you share,
child of order, mother of the peace of the good,
friend of the Furies, those vengeful ones who pursue
the evil and the wrongful, the tyrant and the brute.
Dike, straight-standing one who holds the scales of truth,
lover of justice, lover of the law, who knows
when judge or advocate has been untrue, who brings
the one who has betrayed his trust before the court
of mighty Zeus, who hears all oaths. Clear-sighted Dike
who hears the pleas of the wronged, who answers the cries
of the oppressed, who rages against the unjust,
granter of good to the wise and the mindful,
goddess who knows the hearts of all, I call to you.

Dike (Justice)

Firm-hearted Dike, sister of the Seasons,
daughter of great Zeus and Themis of godly law,
mistress of justice, friend of the wronged and the righteous;
your strength lies in truth, goddess, in the worth
of fair play, and in the rights of men. O Dike,
the trusty one, the honorable one, the one whose
word is ever good–these men and women find
your favor, their prayers to you are answered well.
But those who lie, and cheat, and thieve, these evil-doers
earn your wrath; never can they escape your vengeance.
Dike, whose sharp sword pierces the heart of the unjust,
who protects the honest and the noble, the upright
and the true, fair-minded goddess, impartial one,
the rule of right is ever your concern. Dike,
champion of the good, I praise and honor you.
